It was a summer night, I believe, or at least the weather was nice come dark.
Denine heard a sound, like a knock, on one of our bedroom windows. This scared Denine to bits!
We'd been frightened by a prowler years before when our home was new; no fences, no curtains for most neighbors, and a suspected druggy lurked in our neighborhood come dark.
Denine was certain it was the prowler. She was frightened. Dory and Mary were frightened, too. I don't recall if I was frightened or even there.
For many years, decades actually, the prowler knock was told and Denine's worry over what a prowler was so bold to do (knock on a window) was not forgoten.
Not too many years ago, it was revealed that the young teen bo,y who lived two doors down, was who actually knocked on the bedroom window all those years ago. Dory and Mary had plans to sneak out to meet him after dark.
Because Denine was so frightened of the prowler outside our home, I guess young teens Dory and Mary opted to keep it a secret that it was really a friend. Those crazy gals! Keeping their secret for so many years all the while Denine and I believed it was something or someone else.
I'm curious what Dory and Denine's take on this story is. Maybe they'll share their version!

Oh, Mary, I can't look back on those high school years you lived with our family without laughing. The secret that was long held about Scott being the "prowler" that Denine was frightened about for decades! You and Dory pulled some fast ones (on a small scale) together. :) I ALWAYS think of you and Dory singing your duet of Elton John's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", every single time I hear it, no fail. Thank you so much for bringing your piece of our east coast family to California all those years ago. Love you, young cousin. May peace be with you.

Mary where to begin. It all started with you yelling and screaming at us for getting into mischief and causing havoc around the house and neighborhood, for being boys. Us boys grew older and i was able to get to know you as a kind loving and caring mother. I have grown to learn that sometimes some peoples hearts are just to big and care to much for others that they forget about the most important person there is to care for. I really pray and hope you have found true peace and happiness my friend!!
