I knew Ed from Sacred Heart. He always said nodd when our eyes met. He was a devoted man, I would see him in the back of church holding a rosary. I will miss him.

Very saddened to hear about the loss of one of my all time favorite teachers, Mr. Piersa from Cheektowaga Central. He was my wood shop teacher in middle school around 2001, and was always really nice to me.
In 7th grade, I got him a tie for Christmas, and until the day I graduated, he would always find me at school to show me that he was wearing his favorite tie! One year he surprised us and brought Christmas presents to my house, because we lived near his family. He always treated me like family and it meant a lot that he cared so much. He was always so supportive of my trumpet playing and was one of my biggest sources of encouragement. It’s one thing to be a great teacher during class time, but it takes someone special to go above and beyond as he did. He cared about our well-being and future, not just what we did in class.
We did a really special after school project, cutting a pointy 1980s style electric guitar body that I designed myself in middle school. He was so enthusiastic about the project, helped me pick out the wood and always asked me if I had finished it for years to come (I still need to find a guitar luthier that can specialty route it for me). I’ll always remember the time and care that he took, and I still feel bad that we never got to finish it; now I want to do it for him. I wonder how many students will never get to take shop class these days and never learn how to fix their own homes or get to learn how to be a craftsman.
He was a teacher that took no lip from anyone - which is important in a woodshop where tools can become dangerous in the hands of kids - but he also had a heart of gold and I loved that about him. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed!

We sure are going to miss our wonderful friend and neighbor, "Mr. Ed". He truly was a great man and so special to my girls...like their "3rd" Grandpa. Always remembering their birthdays and giving them special gifts during the holidays. He always had some words of wisdom and encouragement. I will miss our talks outside and your smiling face. You are someone we will never forget and are thankful that you were our neighbor. R.I.P. We will miss you, Ed. Our hearfelt condolences to Karen, Jon, Becky, Taylor, Wyatt and the rest of his family and friends.
Love,
Kevin, Marie, Caitlin & Taylor Hines
